Social

At least a week before event (or earlier): Check to see if adequate supplies are on hand such as plates, cups, eating utensils, paper tablecloth, etc.  If not, please order supplies.

Day before event: Sweep floor if needed.  Arrange tables and chairs.  Put small bouquet of flowers in little bud vases on eating tables.  Put pretty arrangement or plant in middle of serving table or dessert table.  Get out plates, cups, napkins, eating utensils.  Put serving spoons, pie servers, meat forks, etc. on food table.  Tablecloths are in boxes in old kitchen.

Day of Event:  Assign someone to purchase ice between Sunday School and Morning Worship (if on Sunday).  About four members of the social committee should sit near back door and leave as soon as possible to get things ready.  Put ice in cups, pour tea, possibly coffee.  (Unless company or big celebration, you may just use place mats or paper tablecloths.) Slice cakes, pies, etc into small pieces.  Check oven and refrigerator for extra food.

Clean-up:    Remove food and wash all tables.  Wash, dry and put away dishes. Please leave kitchen clean.  If dishtowels are soiled, take them home to wash.  Return the dishtowels as soon as possible.  Important:  Before leaving, get men to bag garbage and carry it out.

Bridal Showers:    The PW will honor each bride (bride-elect) or groom with a household shower.  All women of the church are invited.  Additional guests to be included are the honoree's immediate family:  mother and mother-in-law, grandmothers and sisters of both bride and groom.  Expenses, including corsage for the bride and flower arrangement, will be shared by all circles.  An announcement will be put in the bulletin two weeks prior to the shower plus the Sunday of the shower (if shower falls on Sunday.) Send invitations to family members who are not members of Good Hope. Invitations should be received ten days prior to shower.  Moderator greets guests at the door.  Bride-elect provides a guest register, if she wishes.

Bereavement

In the event of a death in the church, the Chair of the Bereavement Committee will call the home of the bereaved to determine whether or not a meal is desired.  If the family wishes to have a meal, it will be provided on the day of the funeral.  If the family does not wish to have a meal, a memorial will be sent.

Food Assignments are by Adult Sunday School Classes as follows, with quantity dependant upon the number of family members to be served.

Men's Bible Class
Ladies Bible Class
Koinonia Class

Meat - usually fried chicken
Macaroni and cheese casserole
Vegetable - one or more
Salads, rolls and tea
Desserts

Contributors are reminded to please identify their dishes with a magic marker.  Families may return dishes personally or leave in the church kitchen, notifying donors so they may pick them up.

In addition to food, a memorial will be sent in memory of a Presbyterian Woman.  The secretary of the PW council is responsible for this.  Of course, if so desired, anyone may send additional food, flowers, or memorials.

Flower

The flower committee should notify Chair of each month's committee.  Chair of each month's Flower Committee calls others to remind them.

December's Committee is requested to join together and buy poinsettias for the first of Advent.  Keep them watered.  Other members may contribute additional poinsettias as memorials.

Flower Committees for both January and February are asked to use greenery, world globe, houseplants, flags of nations, etc. and use money that would have been spent for an arrangement to be given to the World Missions offering.

Easter Lilies will be welcomed in the church on Easter Sunday in memory or in honor of loved ones.

During revivals the church will provide flowers for part of the services.  It is suggested that bought arrangements be passed on to the sick or shut-ins.

Nursery

The chair of each month will notify the others during the month.  Check each Sunday to ascertain if more than one person is needed to assist.  Anyone who is unable to keep the nursery for their Sunday is responsible for getting someone to exchange with them.  More than one person is essential for proper care of the little ones during morning worship.  Unless a special request is made by the parents, only children five years and younger are to stay in the nursery during the morning worship service.

Prayer requests that are to appear in the bulletin, should be called of the chairman.  The chairman is responsible for updating the prayer list weekly.  The chairman is also responsible for preparing the list and for placing the information in the bulletin each week.  If the chairman is unable to prepare the list for the week, a committee member will be notified and they will prepare the list.
